Philosophy

Much of my work explores the tension inherent in the crossing of borders.
As a teacher of linguistically diverse children, I want my students to understand the value of their bilingualism; for them to master English, yes, but always while continuing to grow in their native language.
As a university instructor, I ask my students to bridge the differences between what we (as teachers) think we know about language, and what linguists have uncovered through a century of research.
As a writer, I offer my readers a thread to follow into the border crossings of my characters— physical, cultural, and linguistic.
